(2024). Emily Perez is a 2024 musical drama starring Zoe Saldana as Rita, a lawyer who does her job until a drug lord kidnaps her and demands a gender reassignment. Along the way, Selena Gomez plays Jessie, a drug lord’s wife who adjusts to a new life with the children she raised with him after a gender transition she doesn’t know about. Then, of course, we have Carla-Sophie Gascon, who plays Emily Perez, a gender-swapped drug lord who continues to build her (no longer their) empire.
Most of the story is delivered through musical numbers, so if you don’t like that kind of genre, stay away from it
This movie in particular had a very strange effect on me after I finished it because I went into it blind, and to be honest you have to because the movie as a whole is very unexpected in places and also quite comical. After the film’s director and cast introduced it to us, the film began and the audience spread laughter and joy at some aspects of the film, which I appreciated. What makes the film stand out the most is its amazing cinematography (which is jaw-dropping to say the least), acting by all involved, and some musical numbers. of the musical numbers, as most of them are quite great and impactful to the story, but as the film progressed, the musical numbers became much less eye-catching than before and became clichéd as a result.
Rating: ALondon Film Festival Opening Ceremony
The musical performance at the end was lackluster in my opinion, but I think it summed up some of the story a bit. Don’t listen to me though, the movie is for everyone and I really enjoyed some elements of this movie and I think most of you will too when it comes out soon enough, although not as pronounced as I hope Emily Perez still is a cinematic achievement in the musical numbers and the superb acting that really makes the film more engaging and fun. If you like musicals, try Emily Perez. I think it successfully delivers what the audience can expect from it.
