Synopsis
It follows Rupert Campbell-Black and Tony Baddingham as their long-running rivalry reaches its climax. Coincidentally, Aidan Turner previously filmed at Chavenage House (The Priory in Rivals). The same location was used to depict Trenwith House in the 2015 BBC television adaptation of Poldark. It’s no wonder some people have been incredibly superficially “whining”: “Wah wah, Rupert Campbell-Black was blonde and had blue eyes.” When I first saw Alex Hassell, I couldn’t believe those eyes and he just had that air of confidence that would have buried RCB. It’s a superb cast and as a 40-year fan of all of Jilly’s books, I have no problem with Mr Hassell at all. His eyes surpass any idea I had of who could play Rupert. And that’s a remarkable achievement for someone who was so deeply ingrained in who RCB is, what he looks like and how he acts. Well done…I bet Jilly is happy!
