Avildsen filmed hours of tournament footage from multiple angles
Synopsis
Decades after the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament clash, middle-aged Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence are once again martial arts competitors. During the filming of the original Karate Kid, the late director John G. The Cobra Kai team searched through the studio vault and found a bunch of never-before-seen clips that they were able to introduce into the series through flashbacks.

One of them involves Zabka’s real-life mother, who was in the stands from various angles that weren’t seen until 2018. Ralph Macchio told Uproxx that there are three brand-new angles in the famous crane shot. Many people believe that Miyagi’s name on his tombstone is a continuity error, as in Karate Kid 4 (1994) his name was listed as Keisuke, but it was actually previously shown on the sign that he had Chozen in Karate Kid 2 (1986).

This means that The Next Karate Kid changed its name, while Cobra Kai kept its previous name. Another interesting fact, however, is that the name given in The Karate Kid Part II is not Miyagi’s original name. In The Karate Kid (1984), Miyagi’s dog tags attached to the keys to the 1948 Ford he gave Daniel as a birthday present briefly show that Miyagi’s name is Hideo.
There is still a lot to learn and learn
This series brought me back to my childhood and how much I loved the movies and characters growing up. It was surprising how the characters have been modernized and now include a younger generation. The new season of "Silot" is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
