Synopsis

During Martian’s dialogue in a discussion with Dr
Blake, the acronym “OBE” is incorrectly explained as “Overcome By Events.” In US government agencies, including the Intelligence Community and the Department of Defense, the correct/official explanation of the acronym “OBE” is “Overcome By Events.” /Josh Brolin/Jalen Ngonda (2024). When “The Agency” (airing in the UK in 2024; 10 episodes ranging from 50 to 60 min) begins, we are introduced to Martian, a CIA agent who is abruptly recalled to London after 6 years in Africa. Arriving at his new London apartment, he discovers that there are listening devices planted everywhere.
At this point, we are already 10 minutes into episode 1
We then move on to Belarus, where a man, clearly drunk, gets into his car and after being chased by the Belarusian police, crashes but survives. A few notes: This miniseries is based on the acclaimed French television series “Le Bureau des Legendes” (The Bureau of Legends). It is the latest from Oscar-winning British director Joe Wright (“Darkest House”).
By the end of episode 2, I was (and am) ready for more
As Episode 1 unfolds, a LOT happens (at least three parallel storylines), and it took me a while to see and understand the bigger picture. By the time we got to episode 2, I was already fully immersed in the series, as there is tension and drama throughout. This miniseries benefits greatly from Michael Fassbender’s excellent lead performance (as the Martian).
I can’t wait!
The first 2 episodes started airing on SHO a few days ago. The remaining 8 episodes will be released weekly on Sunday nights. If you’re in the mood for a high-level CIA spy thriller or are simply a Michael Fassbender fan, I suggest you watch it and draw your own conclusion.
