A modern-day tale of the pursuit of fortune in the world of West Texas oil rigs. See the top movies and TV shows by writer/director Taylor Sheridan on IMDb, based on user ratings. A landman, at least one who works in the oil industry, acts as an intermediary between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landman’s job is to negotiate and finalize agreements with landowners who hold mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. Essentially, they manage the land and secure leases so they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, worker housing (man camps), oversee the assembly of mining equipment, and the drilling of wells, especially in remote locations. They are also part of the repair team, problem solvers, and facilitators. As referenced on CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode 44.24 (2022). This could have easily been rated an 8.5 – 9. If it weren’t for the angsty and so sexualized daughter & ex-wife/mother. They serve no purpose in the plot, and are downright annoying and insulting to the women of West Texas. I understand in a way where Sheridan is coming from, but this is terrible. The women of West Texas are some of the strongest and most ambitious women I know. On top of that, the writing and acting are brilliant. Sheridan could easily have another Yellowstone on her hands if she can get rid of the very unpleasant inter-family feud. But again, I love me some Sheridan writing (and acting) and definitely a very enjoyable performance for the most part.
