The main part of this announcement was the introduction of a major change to the user interface, called Valley of the Sun. As we know, a significant part of the UX changes will be borrowed from the Windows 10X shell, and Windows 10X will not be released. The Redmond giant has been preparing an update for a long time called Solar Valley (“Valley of the Sun”); Apparently, this was the name of Windows 11. The Sun Valley project shone on the network for a long time: Microsoft regularly revealed details of the new interface style, insiders shared previously unknown information, and popular designers in their circles drew realistic concepts based on it. Startup and system items will float above the bottom bar. Start is the calling card and face of every latest version of Windows. It is not surprising that the developers of Windows 11 are transforming it again, but not so much functionally as visually: the Start window will be above the bottom bar.
The rectangles will disappear, replaced by fillets
We have to admit that this small change makes the system look much fresher. Judging by information from the network, Microsoft will not radically change the “inside” of this menu: the innovations will affect only the layout of the window itself. The Control Panel will also float and have exactly the same layout as Start. The action center will be combined with control buttons; A similar one has been used for some time in some other operating systems. Almost all mentions of this new menu indicate that it will be an island, with controls on a separate panel, notifications on another, and specific items (like the player) on another separate panel.
There will be a transparent background with a blur everywhere
In reality, experts and conceptual designers do not agree on this issue: some are convinced that Microsoft will not change its traditions and keep right angles, while others believe that in 2021 Microsoft will follow the trend of steaks. The latter is more in line with the definition of “all-new Windows”: sliding menus aren’t enough to make the new design count as truly new. A fillet is expected to affect almost everything in the system, from context menus and system panels to all application windows. True, even on this issue, the opinions of conceptual designers differ: some draw fillets on all possible interface elements, others combine them at right angles. The island style, angular design, and menu levitation effect of the window display are divided on the Internet, but almost everyone agrees on the transparency of the windows.
A new font that has already been shown
The vast majority of design leaks and renders show transparency and blur across all windows, whether it’s at least the Start menu or Explorer. Moreover, these effects are observed even when installing the canceled Windows 10X operating system, which Microsoft developed for devices with two screens and weak apps in parallel with the Sun Valley project. The so-called acrylic transparency includes the use of new effects when hovering over elements, as well as increased spaces between elements: the areas of the interface with which the user interacts will certainly increase, and page titles will become fatter. Windows 11 will likely use the default responsive Segoe UI Variable font, which already appeared in Windows 10 Build 21376 for Insiders.
