Eventually, Goldstein spoke to Ford and sold him the role
When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel, and Bill Lawrence were asked how they got Harrison Ford on the show, Segel said that Goldstein originally wanted a “Harrison Ford type” and was prepared to audition for people like Ford. Segel told Goldstein that they should at least take it to Ford first, because they thought he would immediately reject it, but at least others would hear that Harrison Ford was involved in the project, which also piqued the interest of other major actors.

Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince her, but he cheered up nonetheless.. From the reviews I’ve read here, it seems like people either love this show or really hate it, and it seems like that may depend on the reviewers’ reaction to Jason Segal.
The relationships are complex and emotional, and the very real human challenges are well-drawn
I’ve enjoyed his movies and think he’s perfect for the role – and the casting of Harrison Ford takes the series to an even higher level. The writing is excellent, the story is fresh, and the characters are original without going overboard with the stereotypically weird.
I highly recommend it!
It can be laugh-out-loud funny and have you in tears the next minute. I was really disappointed after the second episode when I realized I still had to wait.
