Synopsis
It’s about Cécile, a young woman who spends the summer in a villa in the South of France with her widowed father Raymond and his latest lover Elsa. They live in a world of ease and indolence that they co-exist in. I’m only giving this film two stars for the beautiful cinematography and soundtrack. The rest sound like characters from one of those silly American comedies trying to be French sophistication. It just comes out with that eternally tired, self-righteous tone that pervades the aforementioned films. Like Britney Spears reading Françoise Sagan. I’m not even a huge fan of French cinema, so this isn’t a jealous defense, it just conveys the pain of having lived through this. The ending is particularly clumsy and misses the opportunity for at least some mystique. Chloe Sevigny is one of the worst actresses ever.
